Sunshine, muscles, bikinis, music and oh yeah...basketball.  The Nike Battlegrounds League was in motion again this summer as 8 teams competed for a grand prize of $30,000.  With the legendary voice of Sonny Wells, Bambino Brown on the microphone, DJ Shy and DJ Earl on the turntables as well as LA's best hoopers,

Venice Beach was 'on fire' every Saturday.  The competition was tight throughout the season and the championship game came down to the final shot with

no time left on the clock.  Kareem Abdul Jabbar Jr.'s shot came up a little short as the home team Venice Beach lost to this year's champs - Pasadena - by two points.  The champsionship game featured performances by The Debbie Allen Dance Academy and local entertainers.  Also, Devan George of the LA Lakers was on hand prior to the championship game to crown the city wide champions of the Nike Lakers Swoosh League.  The day before the BGL championship, the best indoor hoopers battled in Nike Pro City.  The league features LA native, NBA pros such as Paul Pierce, Baron Davis, Andre Miller as well as Southern California's top college players.  The LA Summer Showcase also crowned its high school girls and college women championships.  This marks the third year that UMCA produced 'Nike Championship Weekend' that served as the 'summer finale' of hoops in Southern California.
